About Eric

Eric has covered the world. He has photographed fragile environments from above the arctic circle to New Zealand, as well as the countryside and cities of Europe, Tahiti, and much of the United States.  He is also an architectural photographer, with a special interest in infrastructure.  Finally, he creates award-winning black and white environmental portraits.

Eric puts his values right up front in his work.  He is passionate about the climate and environment, deeply concerned with the stigma of addiction, and cares about protecting the beauty of the earth.

His best-known project is "Faces of Addiction" 2018 through 2020, a collection of 50 portraits and accompanying life stories of addicted persons. Ten of these works have been added to the permanent collection of the Hood Museum of Art in Hanover, NH, and the project received enthusiastic letters of support from Sen Rob Portman and Gov. Mike DeWine of Ohio.

Another successful project was "Hard Times for These Times," which uses architectural photography to express the national mood and psyche in post-industrial America. This collection is 17 prints on metal. It has been shown in Ohio at the Middletown Arts Center, and can be shipped anywhere in the US.

Eric is currently working on "Active Geology," which uses landscape photography to bring normally very slow geological processes to active life. These images are intended for large public areas such as corporate atriums, as well as for display in natural history museums.  His pictures demonstrating glacial retreat will be on exhibit in Cincinnati Sept 24-Oct 31, 2022.

In addition to his photographic work, Eric has been a published author since he was in his twenties.  His bibliography lists well over 100 entries. He has won two national awards for his writing.  He has done travel photography and writing for various organizations, including AAA.

Eric Hatch custom prints his images and does not offer large editions, with very rare exceptions. He loves working with collectors, architects, corporate designers, museum curators, and gallerists. And he’s glad to talk to YOU.
