About Me

More than a capture!

Hi, I'm Eric Hatch

and I've been around since the glaciers left!  My goal as a photographer is to go beyond the capture, to share what I saw and felt when working in the field.

In 2016 I completed a project using architecture to tell the human story of post-industrial life.

In 2018-2019 I took a year and a half off to create a project called Faces of Addiction, black and white portraits and life stories of fifty addicted persons. That's been very successful, with 10 of the pieces now in the permanent collection of the Hood Museum of Art.

Thanks to poor visual acuity (eleven rounds of eye surgery) I see shapes and patterns more than I see detail. This trait  gives my work a sense of composition, design, and organization that help the image communicate, to be more than a capture.

I'm now working on Active Geology, a project to show both the impacts of climate change and the basic rhythms of the planet itself. You'll see that as a theme in many of the landscapes offered here.

My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.

Inspiration

The patterns made by humans and by nature. The forces of the world of nature.

Techniques

I work in both color and black and white. Most of my work is representational. My work tries to keep its connection with the world as I experience it. That means no HDR and trying to stay honest in representing the world through my photographs.

career highlights

Winning my first photo blue ribbon at age 12 or so, shortly before the glaciers left the New England states Being collected in the Hood Museum of Art. Helping others through Faces of  Addiction and by lecturing, critiquing, and teaching the art principles underlying all great photography.
